What is your favorite event? Why?
Probably a 10K. While 5Ks
are quick and fun, I think the slightly extra mileage of a 10K is a bit
more challenging and allows me to get into a good rhythm on the course,
yet not so long that it requires a major training program or high pain
threshold (like a marathon).
Why do you run?
To give myself the challenge; to feel great
afterwards; to improve my performance. Pushing my body through training
and seeing an improvement in pace and finishing times is exhilarating. I
recently joined Strava, an online tool and social network to track
workouts and set (and break!) goals.
How do you fit exercise into your already busy schedule?
I am
part of a running club that meets twice a week, so if I am too busy to
run at other times during the week, at least I know I have these two
workouts on deck! Having a goal race in mind is also an important
motivator to train. Next up for me is the Philadelphia Half Marathon in
November.
What nutritional path do you follow and how has it benefited you?
I am a part-time vegetarian in the sense that I only eat high quality
meat once in awhile, usually in a nice restaurant setting or other
special social occasion. I mostly eat whole grains, legumes, and lots of
greens and fruits. Quinoa is the basis of many meals. I also love my
VitaMix! I eat organic as much as possible for both produce and dairy
(yogurt and cheese only- my milk substitute is almond), I try to cut out
sugar.
This nutritional path helps me feel healthy, fit, and balanced while also supporting my workouts.
